Russell Sparkman, co-founder and CEO of FusionSpark Media, had the good fortune to have a video chat with Romeo Durscher, director of Education at DJI, makers of the Phantom series of drones, as well as other video and photography related products.
The trigger for our talk was that both Romeo and I were presenters at Collaborations for Cause: Innovations in Visual Storytelling for Impact, which place April 15 and 16, 2016, at Seattle Public Library.
Collaborations for Cause is the annual fundraising event of Blue Earth Alliance, a nonprofit established for the purpose of supporting photo and film documentary experiences.
While there is a lot of interest in drone video for business uses, such as real estate, in our discussion we learn that Romeo’s passion is the use of drone video for social causes and environmental issues. In our discussion, Romeo shares two examples of how drones are used in environmental uses (mapping coastal erosion) and for humanitarian uses (supporting first responders in disaster areas).
